Hair Transplant Costs

A hair transplant is an effective form of treatment for hair loss, for example male pattern baldness. But it is not available on the NHS which means paying for private treatment. And this can be expensive.

Prices vary from one clinic to another. These prices are based on the reputation and experience of the surgeon, the location of the clinic, the type of procedure and your hair loss condition.

Every surgeon will have a price range for the different hair transplant procedures so find out about these in advance and compare these with others. Draw up a shortlist of potential clinics and surgeons and compare their prices.

You will be given a quote at the initial consultation. You will also be given a breakdown of the overall cost of your treatment once the surgeon has determined the type of procedure you need. But it is the extent of your hair loss that will determine how much you pay.

The greater the extent of your hair loss the more expensive it is likely to be especially as you will require repeat sessions to maintain your new look. If you need lots of hair grafts then several procedures will be required which pushes up the price.

Examples of prices for hair transplant procedures

Follicular Unit Transplantation (this is also known as strip harvesting):

Prices start from 2,500 up to 13,000 or more which depends upon the number of donor strips used. This is also cheaper than FUE.

Follicular Unit Extraction:

Prices start from 3,000 up to 20,000 or even 30,000.

This is time consuming process but results in little to no scarring and a quicker recovery period.

Micro grafting:

Prices range from 1,000 up to 10,000

Body Hair Transplant (using FUE):

Prices start from 6,500 up to 60,000

This procedure is only performed if you are unable to have a hair transplant by conventional means, i.e. using donor hair from the scalp. Results cannot always be guaranteed.

It is the most expensive of all the hair transplant procedures.

Scalp flap/scalp reduction/scalp lift/scalp extension surgery:

Prices start from 2,000.

Many clinics have finance plans where patients can apply for a loan to help spread the cost of their treatment. Your surgeon will explain this in detail.
